Natural hair cycle

Normal 5-year cycle or premature hair loss

Like all cells in our body, hair is alive and follows a natural growth cycle: the hair cycle. This cycle is divided into three phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen.

The phases of the natural hair cycle:

The anagen phase is the hair growth phase. It is the longest part of the hair cycle, lasting approximately 5 years. The vast majority of hair on the scalp is therefore in the anagen phase.

The catagen phase is a resting phase during which the hair stops growing. It lasts approximately 3 weeks, which will bring the hair into the telogen phase.

The telogen phase is the end of the hair's life cycle. Its expulsion leaves room for a new follicle in the anagen phase.

Telogen phase hairs are the hairs we see on our brush every day and lose throughout the day. As long as their quantity remains limited (around 50 to 100 hairs per day), there's no need to worry.

Our hair will experience 25 to 30 hair cycles throughout our lives. These cycles last on average about 5 years. We all theoretically have more than enough hair cycles to maintain beautiful hair throughout our lives.

In the case of abnormal hair loss, for various reasons, it can shorten the duration of hair growth cycles and lead to the partial or total depletion of hair. Hair then begins to become increasingly thinner and thinner, and baldness can set in. Your Norgil naturopath will help you reverse this process.
